CALL TO SCHOOLS AND RETAILERS TO PREPARE NOW FOR THE JAN 26TH PARTIAL
SOLAR ECLIPSE:

All of South Africa will see a partial eclipse of the Sun on Monday
January 26th - the start of the International Year of Astronomy
(IYA2009). Limpopo will have a 25% eclipse, and Cape Town 65%. The
eclipse starts at about 7:15am and ends around 9:30am.

"Eclipse-viewers" for safe viewing of the Sun during the eclipse will be
available shortly from the Jhb Planetarium. In the spirit of IYA2009, we
are calling on the following groups to help us distribute these as
widely as possible, to enable people around the country to view the
event:
* schools: order "Eclipse Teaching Packs" before the end of term - your
local Education Department office should have information, alternatively
contact the Planetarium;
* retailers wanting to re-sell viewers;
* businesses dealing with early-morning commuters, who can host informal
eclipse-viewing sites;
* companies wanting to supply their staff.

Eclipse and viewer ordering information is at www.planetarium.co.za

Schools can SMS "ECLIPSE SCHOOL" to 083-488-0378
