Dear All,

Ryan Bruton from the MTN Sciencentre has sent the following email.

Kind regards,

Christian

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Large Hadron Collider is here!!! The Higgs Boson, dark matter, higher dimensions and the Origins of the Universe.
The SA-CERN Programme and the MTN Sciencentre invite you to a lecture by visiting CERN scientists, Prof John Ellis and Dr Christine Darve, both lead scientists at the world’s most exciting physics discovery machine at CERN near
Geneva.

Date: Friday 6th of August 2010 at 18:30 for 19:00
Venue: MTN Sciencentre, Cape Town

The Large Hadron Collider at CERN has now being running for more than half a year. This is the world’s largest experiment, located near Geneva. It’s a 27km long underground nuclear accelerator and the world’s current most exciting opportunity for new discoveries.

This machine is searching for the elusive Higgs Boson. It is also looking for dark matter, higher dimensions and studying extreme states of matter, that give insight into the origins of the Universe. The LHC can indeed change the face of science. South Africans have a unique once-off opportunity to hear first-hand about the LHC from visiting CERN scientists.

Prof Ellis is a lead High Energy Physics theorist and Dr Darve is a lead Accelerator Physicist. Please join us as they
talk about the LHC and the astounding experiments being conducted at CERN.

South Africa is now part of this experiment, and data from CERN will also be channeled to research teams around South Africa. Discovery could even take place from South Africa.

The MTN Sciencentre address is 407 Canal Walk (Upper level, Entrance 5), Century City, Cape Town.
There is no cost to attend the event but seating is limited and booking is advised.
Secure parking is available.
Contact Jani on 021 529 8100 or jani at mtnsciencentre.org.za to book your seat.
