Subscribers to AstroNet are reminded of the ASSA Symposium scheduled
for Thursday 7 October 2010 to Saturday 9 October 2010 to be held in
Pretoria at the Silverton campus of the Council for Geoscience.
Submissions for papers
will be accepted until Friday 17 September.  Entry forms for
attendance can be downloaded at

although registrations for attendance will be accepted until the
startof the Symposium, a 'late registration fee' of R50 will be
charged forentries after 17 September.  Attendance for part ofthe
program can be arranged.

Changes in light pollution levels at Boyden and in Bloemfontein

A workshop on the use of lasers in astronomy will also be held.  Johan
Uysof the Department of Health will give an overview of relevant
legislation.  The output of the workshop will be guidelines for the
Department for the issuing of licenses to operate high power (>5 mW)
laser pointers.  Johan isresponsible for issuing all laser related
licenses (medical equipment, entertainment/show equipment,  general,
etc) in the Republic.  The program includes a visit to HartRAO on
Saturday Morning, followed by a guided tour through Tswaing meteorite
