S.A. Astronomical Observatory in Cape Town will host a free public lecture titled "Unravelling the Universe with Large Surveys" on Saturday, December 10 at 20h00. Dr. David Gilbank whose research interests are in galaxy evolution, clusters of Galaxies and science with large surveys will be giving the lecture.

There will be tours of the site and stargazing if the weather is good.

Abstract

"Unravelling the Universe with Large Surveys"
Astronomy is entering a new era where telescopes will map huge areas of the sky much deeper than ever before. This will lead to an explosion in astronomical discoveries. During his talk, Dr. David Gilbank will describe a current large area survey, illustrate some of the questions we can attempt to answer with these new projects, and also show how the Southern African Large Telescope (SALT) fits into this new order.
