Dear All,

It is a pleasure to inform you that applications for the 34th International School for Young Astronomers ("ISYA 2012") are possible now. The online application form is available at

http://isya2012.saao.ac.za/index.php/applications

ISYA 2012 will take place during 6 - 26 February 2012 in Cape Town, South Africa. The school is organised jointly by the International Astronomical Union (IAU), the South African Astronomical Observatory (SAAO) and the University of Cape Town (UCT).

The overall theme of the school is "Observational astronomy in the optical and infrared", involving both lectures and observational work in teams. The goal is to give students ideas of modern research projects and to give technical expertise to plan, propose for, obtain, reduce and analyse modern astronomical data.

Students studying for an MSc or PhD degree in Astronomy or Physical sciences are eligible to apply for participation. Students at other levels may be considered as well. Applications from all over Africa are especially encouraged. This school accepts approximately 30 qualified students with good English proficiency and a high-level knowledge in physics and mathematics.

The deadline for applications is 31 October 2011. However, you are advised to apply in good time, as you will have to arrange for two letters of recommendation to be sent before the deadline.

Kind regards,

Christian Hettlage, on behalf of the organisers:

Petri Vaisanen
Patrick Woudt
Jean-Pierre De Greve
