Hi everyone,

Join the Soutpansberg Astronomy Club in Louis Trichardt, at Makhado Crossing on Saturday the 8th October from 18:00 for the global INTERNATIONAL OBSERVE THE MOON NIGHT (InOMN 2011). The inaugural InOMN held on the 18th September last year had 502 events in 53 countries around the world with over 500 000 people participating. The 2011 event promises to be even bigger. This year’s theme, “It’s YOUR Moon: What Does the Moon Mean to You?” is intended to focus on personal and cultural connections to the Moon with the organisers wanting to continue sharing the excitement of lunar science and exploration.

Presently there are four events registered in Southern Africa, from as far south as Stellenbosch (public outreach at "Die Braak") and the South African Astronomical Observatory in Cape Town, to the opposite end of the country in northern Limpopo and Louis Trichard (public outreach at "Makhado Crossing"). In the middle of the country the West Rand Astronomy Club has also registered an event.

So come and join the SAC for views of our closest neighbour in space through the telescope or projected on a "big screen". Fill in the Moon Quiz and the first three entries drawn on the evening will each win a GalileoScope, courtesy of the South African Astronomical Observatory. Handout material will include lunar information as well as a little bit of South African "Moon Lore". See you there!

Regards,

Kos Coronaios
