Hi all

The Astrophotography Section of the Astronomical Society of South Africa
has learned that the asteroid Pallas recently passed opposition, and is
currently moving past the moderately bright star Alphard (Alpha Hydra).
Since the asteroid is at approximate magnitude 7 for the next few weeks,
and is so conveniently placed for observing, we've decided to set a
challenge: Capture a time-lapse series of images of Pallas as it passes
through Hydra.

It should be detectable with modest astrophotography equipment, and quite
visibly moves by about a half degree per night. For more information,
including a finder chart and directions on how to share your images, visit
the Astrophotography Section's website here:

Kind Regards
Allen Versfeld
