The talk will briefly cover astronomy in the 60s and the events leading to the founding of the South African Astronomical Observatory in 1972 and its outstation in Sutherland. Early equipment will be shown and described and how Sutherland operated over the years prior to Greg's retirement in October 1999. Details of some of the interesting things that happened during this period will be shared.
