<p class="bodytext">The
South African Astronomical Observatory (SAAO) is the national centre
for optical and infrared astronomy in South Africa. It is a facility of
the National Research Foundation (NRF) under the Department of Science
and Technology (DST). Its core function is to conduct fundamental
research in astronomy and astrophysics by providing a world-class
facility and by promoting astronomy and astrophysics in Southern
Africa. SAAO headquarters are in the suburb of Observatory in Cape
Town. The main telescopes used for research are located at the SAAO
observing station near Sutherland in the Northern Cape, a four hour
drive from Cape Town.<br>

SAAO invites applications for the above position:<br>
<br>
<b>DUTIES:</b></p>
<ul>
<li>Develop and co-ordination of Public Outreach Activities</li>
<li>Co-ordinate public visits to SAAO</li>
<li>Management of SAAO Shop and Products</li>
<li>Marketing of SAAO, Astronomy and Space Science</li>
<li>Co-ordinate development and dissemination of new material eg;
brochures, visitor information, Poster etc </li>
</ul>
<p class="bodytext"><b>SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:</b><br>
Post matric qualification in a Science or Public relations plus proven
experience in related field/s<br>
Written and verbal communication skills<br>
High degree of proficiency in computer usage<br>
High level of organizational ability is required<br>
Highly developed interpersonal skills<br>
Basic knowledge of or passion for astronomy/science would be
advantageous.<br>
