<b>Viktor Savinykh</b> is a cosmonaut who was born on March 7, 1940, in
Berezkiny, Russia. <br>
Savinykh became a cosmonaut in 1978. He has spent over 252 days 17 hours 38
minutes in space on three space flights. In 1981, Savinykh spent 74 days aboard
the Salyut 6 space station. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Savinykh
made his second flight aboard the Salyut 7 space station in 1985. He made
several space walks to restore power to the station. In 1988, Savinykh flew
aboard Soyuz TM-5. The crew spent 10 days aboard the Mir space station. <br>
Viktor Savinykh has been decorated twice as Hero of the Soviet Union (May 26,
1981 and December 20, 1985).</span></p>

Fukushima Atomic Power Plant in Japan after the devastating earthquake and
tsunami has caused widespread apprehension of a similar catastrophe happening
in India. Even scientists are beginning to voice concern and are advising a
review of our nuclear power policy. Therefore, a discourse on the safety aspect
of India’s nuclear power plants and the desirability of having a public debate
to learn more about these issues, we believe, would be in order.</span></h1>
