NRF Freestanding Doctoral bursaries are released as block grants to South African public universities. In addition, the block grant awards are made to universities to nominate qualifying students in line with the ministerial guidelines on equity and redress to the NRF (Ministerial Guidelines on Bursaries and Fellowships, 2013). </span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-ZA" style="font-size:12.0pt"> </span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-ZA" style="font-size:12.0pt">These funding instruments make funds available to support students pursuing full-time Honours studies at South African public universities. In all Scholarships, priority will be given to financially needy yet academically capable applicants who were previously funded by the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) and/or University Financial Aid.
