Dear All

In celebration of the International Year of Astronomy you are invited to
our final Speak 2 the Scientist for 2009. The event aspires to be a
star-studded affair with the premiere of the movie Ancient Astronomers
of Timbuktu.

This beautifully crafted scientific heritage film captures the unfolding
story of the secrets of the manuscripts of Timbuktu as told by ancestors
of the traders, academics and scribes who safeguarded them through the
tumultuous past few hundred years and the men and woman involved in
their conservation and research today. It follows investigative and
collaborative research - revealing details of daily life and the
importance and relevance of Islam to scientific knowledge in medieval
Timbuktu.

Dr. Graham Dominy, the senior government official involved with the
Timbuktu Manuscripts project will join us as the Scientist for the
evening. Dr. Dominy, producer, Sharron Hawkes, and director, Guy
Spiller, will all be on hand to answer questions after the movie.
