Special Space Science Lecture by Viktor Savinykh, Russian Cosmonaut



Nehru Centre cordially invites you to a Special Space Science Lecture
on“50th Anniversary of the first human Space flight” by Viktor Savinykh,
Russian Cosmonaut on Thursday, 9 June 2011 at 5 p. m. in the Hall of
Culture, Discovery of India Building, Dr. Annie Besant Road, Worli, Mumbai
400018.



*Viktor Savinykh* is a cosmonaut who was born on March 7, 1940, in
Berezkiny, Russia.
Savinykh became a cosmonaut in 1978. He has spent over 252 days 17 hours 38
minutes in space on three space flights. In 1981, Savinykh spent 74 days
aboard the Salyut 6 space station.

Savinykh made his second flight aboard the Salyut 7 space station in 1985.
He made several space walks to restore power to the station. In 1988,
Savinykh flew aboard Soyuz TM-5. The crew spent 10 days aboard the Mir space
station.
Viktor Savinykh has been decorated twice as Hero of the Soviet Union (May
26, 1981 and December 20, 1985).

Dear Sir/Madam
The recent disaster at the Fukushima Atomic Power Plant in Japan after the
devastating earthquake and tsunami has caused widespread apprehension of a
similar catastrophe happening in India. Even scientists are beginning to
voice concern and are advising a review of our nuclear power policy.
Therefore, a discourse on the safety aspect of India’s nuclear power plants
and the desirability of having a public debate to learn more about these
issues, we believe, would be in order.
