NATIONAL SCIENCE WEEK 2013 (27th July - 4th August)
 

This year's National Science Week kicks off on Saturday 27th July- organised by SAASTA, under the auspices of the Department of Science and Technology.  NSW is a countrywide celebration of science running concurrently at multiple sites in all nine of our provinces.  

 

In Makhado (Louis Trichardt) the Soutpansberg Astronomy Club, will be at various public venues and schools in Polokwane, Mussina, Thohoyandou, Giyani, Elim as well as Makhado (Louis Trichardt), promoting science and astronomy.  Astronomy and science related activities; handout material will be available, including posters and career information in the science, engineering and technology (SET) departments.

 

Venus and dates that the Soutpansberg Astronomy Club will be visiting:

 

Saturday 27th July         Polokwane, Mall of the North. 

Sunday 28th                  Polokwane, Sterkloop.

Monday 29th                Giyani, Muyexe High School.

Tuesday 30th                Elim, Elim Mall.

Wednesday 31st           Thohoyandou, Spar.

Thursday 1st August      Makhado, Litshovhu High and Makhado Annual Show.

Friday 2nd                     Makhado, Sumbandila Outreach & Makhado Annual Show.

Saturday 3rd                  Polokwane, Savannah Mall in conjunction with University of Limpopo.

Sunday 4th                    Mussina, Great North Road Plaza.



The theme for 2013 is "Celebrating scientific areas in which South Africa has a competitive edge".

The main topics to be conveyed are:

  a.. Astronomy
  b.. Mathematics
  c.. Indigenous knowledge
  d.. Marine Sciences
  e.. Palaeontology
  f.. South African inventions
