Greetings all
As you may be aware, the South African Department of Science and Technology has established the Astronomy Desk and one of its mandates is to develop a long term strategy for astronomy in South Africa.

On behalf of the Panel which is coordinating the development of the Astronomy Education/Outreach part of the plan, I would like to appeal to you to provide us with your thoughts and input on the subject. To simplify the process for you to provide input we have set up a basic website at https://sites.google.com/a/astro4dev.org/astrodeskpanel3/

This website contains all the information related to this subject and has an online form which you can use to easily send us your input. We will update the website as more information becomes available.

Please note our timeline: submission of the plan by the Panel is 31 October 2013 so please send us your input as soon as possible!

The next event on the calendar is a presentation of progress to the astronomy community at the Astronomy Town Hall meeting on 1-2 August 2013. Input received before then may be incorporated into Panel 3′s presentation. Final deadline for public input is 31 August 2013 to allow the Panel time to consolidate the plan.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any queries or wish to provide your input in another format. We look forward to hearing your thoughts and ideas that will help define a long term plan for Astronomy Education/Outreach in South Africa.
