Anyone planning public eclipse-viewing: it would be great if you'd register
a viewing site on the map (see below).

All of SA will experience a partial solar eclipse from at least 10am to noon
on Thursday 1 Sept 2016. Worst view is CT (15%), best is Musina (50%) -
definitely worth watching wherever you are. For specific times & views from
SA towns, see
http://www.eclipseafrica.org/Eclipse2016/Eclipse2016.php?eCountry=South%20Af
rica or astro.ukho.gov.uk/eclipse/0432016/. This eclipse will also be
visible from most of Africa.

It is very easy, and huge fun, to host an "eclipse viewing site" - all you
need is:

* some eclipse viewers - not many, they can be shared

* some info - see www.eclipseafrica.org/eWatch/eWatch.shtml#explain and
www.eclipseafrica.org/Info/WatchEclipse.shtml

* some activities - pinhole projection is great for creating photographable
"eclipse art", teaching optics, and keeping people busy - see
www.eclipseafrica.org/Info/WatchEclipse.shtml#OtherPinhole

* a venue where people will be gathered or passing-by mid-morning on
Thursday 1st Sept; take the eclipse to the streets! It's huge fun.

If you do plan to organise group eclipse-viewing, please "register a viewing
site" at www.eclipseafrica.org/eWatch/eWatch.shtml - help raise awareness of
the event and the local science outreach community.

If you need eclipse viewers, I can supply at R7 each (outreach organisations
and schools price); outreach organisations ordering before end July get
special price R6 each. General public: R10 each, R8 each for 20+. Prices
exclude postage. Details at www.moonshadowmix.co.za
