Eclipse Day tomorrow Thursday 1st . . . 9:32am to 12:38pm for Jhb, for other

www.eclipseafrica.org.  Max eclipse in Jhb is 11:03am, but it's quite fun to
watch the start of the eclipse too.

 

For those without eclipse viewers, if you want to look DIRECTLY at the Sun,
a double layer of Five Roses teabag wrapper foil, used for a few seconds, is
safe.  

Remember: if it looks too bright it's damaging your eyes, and absolutely do
not look at the Sun through binoculars (this causes permanent severe
damage).

 

By far the safest way to watch the eclipse is INDIRECTLY, via "natural
pinhole projection" - look for the spots of light under a leafy tree, lay a
sheet of white paper on the ground to show them better.  The spots are
circles because they are images of the Sun, "pinhole-projected" by the gaps
between the leaves.  During the eclipse, the circles will become eclipsed
Suns.  Perfectly safe to photograph.
